2018 PRIME LAMB CHALLENGE

OUYEN FARMER’S FESTIVAL

The annual Prime Lamb Challenge conducted by Ouyen Livestock Exchange Inc. was held at the Farmer’s Festival on November 6 2018.

Our judges, local livestock agents Tim Ferguson (Landmark), Martin Williams (Elders) and Rory Singleton (BR&C) closely scrutinized the 26 pens of 3 lambs that were presented. Each of these pens were graded out of 10 for the following: fat score, length & depth, back & rump structure, skin presentation and evenness, from the categories lambs out of merino and crossbred ewes.

Each of these pens were eligible for the many great prizes on offer, including the James Alexander Cattanach Memorial Trophy for the pen which was awarded the Supreme Champion.

The James Alexander Cattanach Memorial Perpetual trophy was this year presented by John Cattanach to Nic Erhardt.

As in previous years, the Victorian Poll Dorset Association kindly donated a $200 ram voucher for the winner of the Prime Lamb Challenge.

Two lucky pen ram vouchers were this year won by Hamish Farnsworth and Matthew? Erhardt.  These vouchers are redeemable from one of our six sponsoring studs: Hopelock, Richmond Park White Suffolk Stud, Illoura Rams, Mallee Park, Glen Devon Poll Dorset Stud and Anden White Suffolks.
